HATS EDUCATION < HOW TO

Education about hat making is approached from the thought direction that it can be learned in a couple of hours per week in 10 weeks or less; to that of higher learning for up to 4 years in a technical apprentice program. The viewpoint depends upon one's motivation, experience and where one lives in the world. Statistically, since less than 2% of businesses survive for 15 or more years, one's education menu appears important.

Frankly, the business of making hats or millinery is one of life long learning. Books, magazines and articles found in the Hats Reference section attest to the continuing changes and constant improvement in quality.

The first experience of making hats is commonly as a pre-school child who wants to make a simple hat or head wear from materials found around their home or environment. For head wear patterns suitable for making by children, go to the section on Crafts .

As one grows older and enters the education system of a country, the availability of education is found within the study of costume fashion and design in Applied Arts schools. Please select your location of interest from the following:

1. Ontario Public Education (5)

2. North America (30)

3. Central and South America (2)

4. Europe (63)

5. Africa (7)

6. Asia, Middle and Near East (16)

7. Oceania (8)

8. Hat Making Courses (11) (Quick and easy)

For those who may or may not have completed any of the education above, the satisfaction of making head wear for personal artistic enjoyment, rather than business considerations, is embodied in the section of Hobbies .
